At this point, this is only a rumour. But it seems what many wanted is going to come true. You will be able to book a Tata Nano online!

The online booking feature would be available on the Tata Nano website.

There are other claims doing the rounds on the Net that you will be able to book a Nano online at several other automobile websites on the Net - but at this moment, we do not know if it is true or some are just angling for some publicity.

The initial deposit for a Tata Nano is Rs 2,999 according to what we hear today on the day of the launch. Things would be clearer by tonight, we think.

That is a small enough amount for anyone to pay by credit card online.

Earlier, it was reported that the booking amount of the Nano is Rs 70,000. We do not know if that still holds, and the payment is actually in two parts with the initial deposit being Rs 2,999. But even if it is Rs 70,000, it is possible for many to go in for online booking of the Tata Nano.

Of course, booking a Nano online or through one of the many outlets such as Titan, Croma, Westside or Tat Indicom shops does not mean that you are going to get your hands on one. That will only be decided through a lottery system, which means that most of you are going to be disappointed.

There are only 50,000 to 70,000 Nanos being planned for production in the entire 2009. So online booking or not, it is entirely luck whether you get your hands on one or not.

Click this link if you are looking to get an application form for the Nano.

Again, Tata Nano online booking may also allow direct debit from bank accounts using a payment gateway. This would mean that you will be able to buy a Nano online as easily as you currently buy a railway ticket from IRCTC or pay your mobile phone bills.
